Feeding a Bearded Dragon
Bearded dragons are omnivores whose diet changes dramatically with age. Babies eat mostly insects; adults eat mostly leafy greens. Calcium supplementation is essential.
Calcium supplementation โ non-negotiable
Feeder insects have an imbalanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. Without calcium supplementation, reptiles develop metabolic bone disease (MBD) โ a painful, preventable condition that causes soft bones, deformities, and death if untreated.
- Dust insects with calcium+D3 powder at every feeding.
- Gut-load feeder insects 24โ48 hours before use โ feed them leafy greens, carrots, and reptile gut-load powder.
- Vary the feeder insects โ a mix of dubia roaches, crickets, and black soldier fly larvae is nutritionally superior to any single insect.
