Feeding a Leopard Gecko
Leopard geckos are insectivores that thrive on dubia roaches, crickets, and mealworms. They should be fed every 2–3 days as adults, daily as juveniles.
Calcium supplementation — non-negotiable
Feeder insects have an imbalanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. Without calcium supplementation, reptiles develop metabolic bone disease (MBD) — a painful, preventable condition that causes soft bones, deformities, and death if untreated.
- Dust insects with calcium+D3 powder at every feeding.
- Gut-load feeder insects 24–48 hours before use — feed them leafy greens, carrots, and reptile gut-load powder.
- Vary the feeder insects — a mix of dubia roaches, crickets, and black soldier fly larvae is nutritionally superior to any single insect.
